This Month at Fitness 805:Cali with car

Fitness 805 is thrilled to announce the start of a remarkable campaign - the 805 challenge! As popular culture is becoming more and more proliferated with extreme makeovers and weight-loss reality shows, Fitness 805 has decided to create its own program - aimed not only at weight-loss, but also toward the creation and maintaining of a healthy life. After a careful search, lucky contestant Cali Turner-Alpert has been selected to receive a full body makeover from fitness 805.  Fitness 805 invites you to follow Cali's progress as she goes though the challenge at www.Fitness805.com.

The Fitness 805 Challenge: Losing weight is only one part of getting healthy. Fitness 805 is using this challenge to improve the health and happiness of Cali, and to show that getting healthy is not all about weigh-ins, competition and tears; it's about feeling better and making life changes. Cali is a local mother of two, who says she has always had problems with weight. Cali says that her relationship with Fitness 805 is "a perfect fit!" "It's relaxed," she says, "but they allow me to push myself. A month ago, I never would have imagined getting up at 5am for spin class!"

While Cali is over 250 pounds, she and Jason have decided not to base the challenge on fast weight loss. "It's not about deadlines," says Cali, "it's about changing your life for the rest of your life. Jason doesn't talk about 'the end' of the challenge," for a healthy lifestyle should last far beyond the campaign. Working with Cali from Fitness 805 are personal trainer Melody and nutritionist Amy, who have been carefully selected for their compatibility with Cali. Melody started out in the entertainment industry, and has a passion for helping people lead healthy lives. Cali's nutritionist, Amy, will be making small, incremental changes to her diet. Healthy foods will be added to Cali's existing habits.

Fitness 805 is about real connections, small scale cooperation, and relationships. "Jason came to my house," says Cali, "to talk with my husband and family, letting everyone know what was going on." This challenge is something that has to start from the ground, and no one should be alone when they try to change their lives for the better. Check up on Cali, not only to see how much weight she has lost, but to show your support. Let Cali and Fitness 805 show you what any of us can do if we set our minds to it.  Come get involved in the Fitness 805 Challenge! Fitness 805 is on Facebook! We are also happy to announce that Fitness 805 is now on Facebook! Find the page by clicking here, searching Fitness 805 on Facebook.com or through the Fitness 805 website. Cali's progress will be updated often on both sites!

Fitness 805 Health Tip of The Month:

Five Foods That Are Essential To Buy Organic*

1. Baby Food:  Babies are particularly sensitive to pesticides due to their low body weight and underdeveloped systems.

2. Strawberries: A 1993 Study revealed that supermarket strawberries were the most heavily contaminated fruit or vegetable in the US.

3. Milk:  Most cows are injected with growth hormone, which increases their risk for infection by 79%. Therefore, most non-organic milk is treated with antibiotics as well.

4. Green Beans: More than 60 pesticides are used on green beans.

5. Peaches:  Have the highest levels of pesticides of all conventional produce. More important foods to buy Organic: Apples, Apricots, Bananas, Cherries, Grapes, Nectarines, Pears, Raspberries, Bell Peppers, Carrots, Celery, Corn, Cucumbers, Lettuce, Potatoes, Spinach,  Oats, Rice, Nuts, Poultry, Salmon.

WillieWillie- Martial Arts

Willie, a native of Santa Barbara, began his career in dance. Willie says he has always been drawn to the rhythm of movement. Now, he is a probation officer for SB county (working in a rehabilitation boot camp), a personal trainer and Martial Arts expert with Fitness 805. Movement is something Willie can't seem to avoid.

Willie explained that he began teaching Martial Arts early, after his "first teacher saw that I understood the art of teaching." Teaching, according to Willie, is a very personal process. "You need to create an environment where they feel good about themselves." That's what makes Fitness 805 such a good fit for Willie. A student and a teacher must connect, and be able to trust each other. A student only learns by admitting "these are my weaknesses," says Willie, which takes a great deal of trust and connection. "Confidence," he says, "is not being afraid to make mistakes." Willie believes that an atmosphere of teaching and open-mindedness is crucial to any progress. This is seen in his relationship with Jason Baker, with whom Willie exchanges personal training for Martial Arts instruction. "He beats me up," says Willie with a smile, "and I return the favor."

Willie sees the draw of the Martial Arts as being one of discipline and focus. "Kung Fu is a great sport for everybody to try." Some people want to take control in their lives, he says. People also want to break their routine. "Moving your body gets your mind moving. Discipline brings out the best in you." Willie loves teaching completely. "You take a step forward," he says, "you tie your shoe, I'll cheer for you. My wife teases me for how excited I get when I see people move.  I'm moving with them!" "It's a sin not to be at your best," Willie reminds us, always encouraging everyone to find a way to get moving and take control of themselves. As for Martial Arts and the life he has fallen in love with, Willie reminds us that we should never give up what we love. "The beautiful thing about a heart and art, is you can do it forever."
