Spring is here! Time to tidy up winter clutter; and time to
think about heading outside as the weather improves. Now's the time to make
good on any abandoned New Years resolutions and get healthy in time for summer!
Remember - spring-cleaning might open up new space for a gym. Why not convert
that extra room into something useful?
We remind you that in times of economic turmoil, it is wise
to invest in yourself. Rather than putting money into an unpredictable market,
remember that you are your greatest asset. It's always a good time to get
healthy, and we're always here to help.
We are also happy to announce a brand new service Fitness 805 now
offers: Redcord
therapy. Beginning in Norway, Redcord employs the use of
a suspension sling to identify and target weaknesses within body musculature.
New professionals and contact info can be found on the 805 website under
Services
and Experts. Help target problem areas with this highly effective
treatment!
Also new to Fitness 805's services is a new and coming
Menopause Exercise seminar delivered by Dr. Victor
Chakarian! Chakarian will examine the benefits of exercise in
dealing with the effects of Menopause on the body. Hormonal changes affect the
body's need for certain exercise, and proper exercise can go a long wan in staying
healthy and happy during Menopause. Chakarian will hold the first lecture in
the seminar on May 4th. The first lecture will be free for all
interested. Email Fitness 805 for
details.

Kathy
Our featured professional this month is Kathy, a Personal Trainer who has
been with
Fitness 805 since the beginning. Kathy always knew she wanted to work in
fitness, having been competitive and active all her life. She began her
training career with Santa Barbara Athletic Club, like 805 founder Jason Baker,
but she longed for a more personal experience. "I like working with people,"
says Kathy. "I like seeing people get excited with their results."
Kathy specializes in outdoor exercise: beach runs,
resistance training in local parks and hikes. She feels the connection between
a trainer and a client is the most important element in a working relationship.
"You can be the most educated trainer, but you need to be able to connect with
the client," she says, having been largely unhappy with the impersonal nature
of training with a large gym. "You need to build a friendship."
We send our congratulations to Kathy who is making
preparations for her coming marriage. She met her fiancé at a 10k race, finding
a kindred spirit through her love of health and exercise (though now she has to
work a bit to keep him in shape).
Kathy keeps active, but her children won't exercise with
her. Grace - 10, Evan - 17 and Megan - 19 believe their mother to be "too intense,"
in her workouts. Rest assured, while Kathy may not slow down to accommodate her
kin, she is more than willing to move at whatever pace her client prefers.
Kathy has lived in Santa
Barbara since she was 5. She has seen her clients drop
up to 50 pounds, and looks forward to further sharing her infectious love of
health.
Lauren Stamper
Interning at 805 is Lauren Stamper, an aspiring dietician
from Camarillo.
Lauren completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington,
and she has been with Fitness 805 since January.
Lauren's interest in dietetics has a long history. She
became a vegetarian 10 years ago, and her knowledge of diet stemmed from a
desire to replace with proper eating habits all that she would miss from not
eating meat. She began to realize that most people do not receive all the
nutritional content they need from their diets.
Still,
she is only human. "I'm not a perfect eater," she
admits with a smile. "I enjoy desert as much as the next person." She
does
understand, however, how you can heal your body through food. "Everyone
needs a dietician before they need a doctor," she says. Most people
wait
until their
poor diet develops into a health problem before they will think about
what
they're eating.
Lauren hopes to launch her career as a Dietician soon, but
until then she is helping in the marketing of the business. She is working with
local hospitals to create relationships with doctors through Fitness 805. Soon,
Fitness 805 will be able to match you not only to your perfect health
professional, but even to your perfectly suited doctor.
Lauren loves horseback riding and spending time with her
family. While she is somewhat unsure as to what the future holds, Lauren is
optimistic. "I am eager for my next adventure!"
