Biography:
Amy’s expertise lies in the personal, consistent relationship she develops with each client; she approaches each individual with a unique perspective, tailoring personal nutrition plans to meet their needs and goals. Her holistic approach to nutrition incorporates gradual lifestyle and behavior changes to helps clients create healthier, happier, and lifelong relationships with food and physical activity. Clients often find that there are a variety of areas where Amy can play a role, from meal planning and grocery shopping, to holiday eating and dining out strategies. Amy’s strengths include nutrition counseling for weight management, food sensitivities, sports nutrition, and gastrointestinal disorders.
Over the years, Amy has supplemented her study of nutrition by working with chiropractors, massage therapists, lactation consultants and primary care physicians in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings, including Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Canyon Ranch Health Resort and Spa in Tucson, and in various private practices nationwide. She has presented at the Massachusetts Eating Disorders Association conference at Brandeis University, and has developed nutrition curricula for Simmons College as the lead student health educator on campus.
Born and raised on Cape Cod, MA, Amy studied nutrition at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City, and at Simmons College in Boston, earning Summa Cum Laude Honors and a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. She completed her Dietetic Internship at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, earning her Registered Dietitian degree. She now resides in Santa Barbara, CA where she owns a private nutrition consulting practice, Nutrition by Design. Having practiced massage for 10 years, Amy is also a Certified Massage Therapist. She received her certification through the Kali Institute for Massage and Somatic Therapies in Ventura, CA.
